About us

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) ROMANIA

For over 17 years, our mission has been to accompany refugees, to provide them with essential services, and to advocate for their cause.

We provide a wide variety of holistic based support including:

  • social and legal assistance
  • educational and cultural activities
  • financial support and accommodation
  • advocacy and lobbying
  • research and studies
  • training and seminars
  • awareness campaigns and information.

JRS assists all categories of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants including, but not limited to:

  • people with a form of protection in Romania
  • relocated people
  • people in detention
  • marginalised refugees
  • tolerated persons
  • migrants coming to work or study.

We are present in all centres opened in Romania, as well as in detention centres.

In particular, JRS Romania has a night shelter in Bucharest called the ‘Pedro Arrupe Centre’. To date over 1,500 refugees having been assisted in situations such as social and economic marginalisation, detention, integration and acceptance conditions. About 20 specialists work constantly at JRS Romania in order to accomplish our mission, supported by many enthusiastic volunteers from all ages and fields.
