The Jesuit Refugee Service Romania Association – JRS Romania announces the start of the project “O Casă Nouă” (A New Home), acronym OCN, project code AM2A1C_01, funded through the National Programme 2021–2027 Asylum, Migration and Integration.
The project will be implemented over 24 months, from May 2026 to May 2028, and aims to improve access to adequate housing for beneficiaries of international protection in Romania.
The overall objective is to improve refugees’ housing stability and independence by facilitating access to adequate housing and providing material support to help them keep it, as a basis for socio-economic integration. Stable housing is an essential condition for integration, for access to services, education and work, and for active participation in the community.
Through this project, JRS Romania will provide information, counselling and practical support for finding, viewing, renting and registering accommodation. The project will also include mediation with landlords, neighbours, homeowners’ associations and building administrators, as well as material support depending on each beneficiary’s individual situation.
The activities are aimed at people who have obtained a form of international protection in Romania, namely refugee status or subsidiary protection, including people in the Integration Programme, resettled persons and vulnerable cases referred or approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration on the basis of an individual assessment. They also include beneficiaries of international protection who, for valid reasons, cannot take part in the Integration Programme but need support with access to housing and integration, for example for health reasons, family circumstances or other justified situations. Eligibility is determined on the basis of an individual assessment and relevant supporting documents.
The project aims to provide information and counselling to at least 250 beneficiaries and material support to at least 550 beneficiaries.
The expected result is greater housing stability, reduced immediate vulnerability and better conditions for continued integration in Romania.
The total value of the project is RON 5,610,000.00, of which RON 5,049,000.00 is non-reimbursable European funding and RON 561,000.00 is non-reimbursable national funding.
Non-reimbursable funding is provided through the National Programme 2021–2027 Asylum, Migration and Integration – https://fed.mai.gov.ro/ – and from the national budget, under the financing contract concluded with the Intermediate Body for Asylum, Migration and Integration within the General Inspectorate for Immigration, Ministry of Internal Affairs.
